Below is the bird’s eye view of my (messy) art nook. In showing you this photo, I’ve convinced myself that the lotus mosaic will dazzle away the thick layer of paper slivers on the floor that are an unavoidable hazard of my spare time occupation.
The halo is now complete and I am very pleased with the result. By my (nerdy) calculations, the mosaic is now 24% complete, which leaves… a great deal more to do. My mornings/evenings/weekends will have to be diligently dedicated to mosaic work if I hope to have it finished before 2010.
As I have previously alluded, this academic year will be a hybrid for me, as my daytime attention is meant to be equally divided between the classroom and my thesis research project. I have enjoyed having a captive audience students again, and I am also enjoying the recent challenges of research recruitment. Even though the lotus mosaic is a huge time commitment, it is one that will help me to stay grounded and focused, as I try to balance the many items on my plate.
